The global pandemic of 2020 will long be remembered by our generation and the ones to follow. Covid-19 changed the lives of humans worldwide. Businesses closed, we became locked in our homes, we all wore masks and isolated. But people are resilient and found comfort in going back to their hobbies, and “comfort food “ recipes, while others took the time to learn something new, such as baking bread! This cookbook is a collection of recipes and stories about the little things that helped us brave the tide of lockdown.
In this time of need many organizations rose to the occasion to assist groups affected by this disaster. Rotarians from Santa Rosa West reached out and with other local Rotary clubs and donors from the private and public sector enable us to create a “Lunch on us” program whereby we purchased meals from the local restaurants that had to close and distributed them via a drive thru to those people effected by Covid-19 layoffs and shutdowns. Over 4000 meals were served to those who needed them. Once the vaccinations began, we fed those hard working volunteers who worked long days getting people vaccinated. The Rotarian motto of “Service Above Self” is evident in the actions of all Rotarians during this time of need.
We continue to look to ways to support the community as it slowly returns to normal.
Special thanks to the Rotary Club of Melkbos, South Africa for their inspiration in creating this cookbook.
