Tree Planting at Sugarloaf Ridge/Hood Mountain

The Santa Rosa East/West Rotary Club led a multi-club tree planting work day adjacent to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.
With Rotary International’s recent adoption of Protecting the environment as an area of focus, Hap Culp was asked to investigate that possibility and, with Dan Lambert, was able to tour Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and adjacent areas with Jon Roney, the park manager. Brian Reed ably engaged the Santa Rosa Sunrise and Santa Rosa Rotary clubs to participate and help finance the acquisition of trees. Jon Roney put together a schedule and after several postponements, we were able to meet on Saturday, November 6, 2021.
Approximately 100 Oak, Maple and Madrone trees were planted together with several hundred freshly gathered acorns on property adjacent to Sugarloaf Park.
Participants from the East/West Rotary were Hap Culp, Brian Reed, Nate Gulbransen, Nate’s son Nolan, Joan Germeshausen, Fred Ptucha, Emily Rainsford and Joe Maurer. From the Santa Rosa Club were Pete Lescure and Dan Balfe. Santa Rosa Sunrise was represented by Harry Coffey, Jim Moir, Olin Leasher, Paul O’Rear and led by Madame President Jennifer Adams. The Rotarians were joined by five intrepid Sugarloaf Park personnel. A good time was had by all despite the chilly weather.
